About the position
Responsibilities
• Develop applications supporting the Student Information System (Ellucian Banner) environment and other administrative systems.
• Assist the programming team in adopting new technologies.
• Provide software enhancements, technical support, best practices, and training for business units at SUNY Potsdam.
• Design, analyze, code, document, and implement applications that support, enhance, and integrate with the Ellucian Oracle-based administrative system, Banner.
• Manage medium scale initiatives with limited supervision.
• Develop design specifications according to business requirements.
• Provide technical assistance to functional users.
• Track progress of projects and perform thorough testing of applications to comply with quality assurance standards.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field OR Associate's degree in a computer-related field with two years of relevant job experience.
• Coursework or experience with systems analysis and design.
• Coursework or experience with procedural programming.
• Coursework or experience with SQL-based languages and an understanding of relational database theory.
• Coursework or experience with web development.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues.
Nice-to-haves
• Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field.
• Demonstrated experience supporting Ellucian Banner software, Argos or other enterprise reporting tool, or other higher education enterprise software.
• Knowledge of Unix/Linux commands.
• Supporting or developing solutions using SQL, PL/SQL, C, Perl.
• Web development using JAVA, Groovy/Grails, JavaScript, jQuery, React JS, XML, HTML5, CSS.
• Experience with version control software such as GIT.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
