Project Overview:
We are seeking a meticulous, detail-oriented freelance copy-editor and proofreader for a one-time project involving a 45,000-word historical memoir. This narrative blends personal experiences with significant 20th-century events and offers insight into the development of a key professional organization. The final text should remain clear, accessible, and compelling for a broad readership interested in historical memoirs.
Scope of Work
1. Copy-Editing (with Tracked Changes):
• Correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and syntax errors.
• Ensure consistency in style, voice, and tone while respecting the author’s storytelling.
• Enhance clarity and readability without compromising the memoir’s personal and historical elements.
2. Proofreading (Post-Approval):
• Conduct a final pass after the copy-edited manuscript is approved, focusing on any overlooked errors or inconsistencies.
To summarise, there will be to specific parts of this job:
Milestone 1: copyediting with tracked edits
Milestone 2: proofreading with tracked edits
Collaboration & Communication
• You will work directly with the project manager for clarity and feedback.
• All initial edits should be delivered with tracked changes for full transparency and efficient approval.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Proven experience in copy-editing and proofreading nonfiction manuscripts, ideally memoirs or historical works.
• Strong command of English grammar and an exceptional eye for detail.
• Comfort with personal narratives that reference significant historical events.
• Ability to maintain coherence and accessibility for a broad range of readers.
• Commitment to meeting agreed-upon timelines and incorporating feedback promptly.
